Whitney M. Young, Jr. Awards Gala | National Urban League 2024 Conference
The EMCEE for the event will be Shannon Lanier, a news anchor, TV host, and author. Pastor Chuck Morse from New Birth Missionary Baptist Church will be one of the featured speakers. Congressman Troy A. Carter, Sr., U.S. Representative for Louisiana's 2nd district, will also address the audience.
The Living Legends Award will honor civil rights pioneers and members of the New Orleans Four: Gail Etienne, Tessie Prevost, and Dr. Leona Tate. The President's Award will be presented to David and Tamala Mann, award-winning gospel artists, entertainers, and authors, who are also co-founders of TillyMann, Inc. The Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Master P, a hip-hop mogul, actor, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Additionally, Leslie Odom, Jr., an award-winning actor, singer, and songwriter, will receive the President's Award in Arts & Entertainment.
The John W. Mack Medal of Honor – Affiliate of the Year Award will be presented to distinguished leaders from various markets. In the Large Market category, the award goes to Michael McMillan, President & CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis. For the Medium Market, Patrick J. Franklin, President & CEO of the Urban League of Palm Beach County (West Palm Beach, FL), will be honored. In the Small Market category, two awards will be presented: one to Marcus Johnson, President & CEO of the Springfield Urban League, Inc. (Springfield, IL), and another to Candy Johnson, President & CEO of the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga.
Additionally, the McGannon Award will be presented to Chanelle Hardy, Head of Civil Rights at Google.
